Biking into horror on Yonge St. just after van attacks pedestrians in Toronto

I was at Walmart waiting for photos to be printed when a lady started screaming in the McDonald’s – “Oh My God!! There has been a terrorist attack at Yonge and Finch!”

My next stop was coincidentally going to be Finch subway station so I biked into the area around 3:30pm – 2 hours after a van was purposefully driven into people in a sidewalk stretch of Yonge street from Finch to Sheppard. The attack would end up killing ten people that day and wounding scores more.

I didn’t have my DSLR cam with me. So I shot a few photos on my mobile. I was obviously taken with the sight of victim’s bodies still on the street.

In the early evening of the attack – Toronto Mayor John Tory and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne arrived to survey the scene and address the media.

I returned to the scene the next day – this time with my DSLR camera. I’m fascinated how police brilliantly investigate crime nowadays – and they were hard at work. Besides what was happening at the scene on Yonge st. – a huge online forensic investigation now turned attention to motive for the attack.

Makeshift memorials emerged at Yonge and Finch and at Mel Lastman Square.

I learned from watching every season of Sons Of Anarchy – bikers have a lot of heart. Ontario Bikers were no different as I caught them arriving on Yonge street to pay tribute.

Mayor John Tory and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attend a memorial service at Mel Lastman Square.
